FUNimation Entertainment Acquires Sailor Moon
FLOWER MOUND, Texas – North American anime distributor FUNimation® Entertainment today announced that it has licensed the home entertainment rights for Sailor Moon from Toei Animation.
Brand new deluxe editions of the acclaimed series will be released under the FUNimation imprint starting in September 2011. In the wake of the announcement of the re-release of the manga of the same title by Kodansha USA, FUNimation is pleased and excited to have the opportunity to bring the anime back to the United States.
The Sailor Moon manga, which originated in Japan in 1992 and ran for five seasons, follows Usagi Tsukino, a young girl who transforms into super heroine Sailor Moon to combat evil and fight for love and justice in the name of the Moon and the mysterious Moon Princess against the Dark Kingdom. The dubbed anime aired on American syndicated television beginning in 1995, helping to usher in an era of anime popularity and bring new fans to the medium.
One of the most recognized manga and anime properties in the world, SAILOR MOON took American pop culture by storm, with mentions in music (“One Week” by Barenaked Ladies), bestselling books (The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot) and more. In Japan, over 15 million copies have been sold and the series has generated everything from animated features to live action musicals, a live action television series and countless merchandise.
FUNimation also would like to announce their partnership with the translation group Miss Dream. This group is comprised of individuals who hold degrees and certifications in the Japanese language, and have already done translations within the Sailor Moon franchise for some time. FUNimation strives to provide the best quality release for Sailor Moon, and is happy to work with a passionate and knowledgeable group in Miss Dream.
Funimation Entertainment is an American entertainment company. Originally founded in 1994 by Gen Fukunaga, the company became a subsidiary of Navarre Corporation on May 11, 2005. THIS. A million times, THIS. I'm usually not against pranks, I've got a good sense of humor. But... dunno, I have to agree with you on his one. Not that funny.
Not every country celebrates April Fool's, and not everyone is "quick" enough to realize that this can't be true. Now all we need is for a Moonie who can't understand English that well to read this, take it to heart, and repost it somewhere AFTER April Fool's (after tomorrow, no one would be the wiser.) Bam! -- rumor mill gets going.
I actually think a better joke would have been to announce something related to the community -- like, I dunno, that one of the admins was giving up their position to whomever wrote the best haiku extolling Zoisite's beauty. Something *silly* and *outlandish*, that has NO potential to spread beyond this comm and no one would believe. But this is actually TOO close to almost-credible, and has a large potential to turn into a fandom-wide rumor.

False things like this are mean, especially with how much hope it can give to some people. While I under your urge to prank this may have not been the wise way to do it. It's only going to possibly start rumors more so if someone just skims this "article".
